The eternal city of Rome, capital of Italy, is home to some of the most beautiful, historical sights from the Roman and Renaissance periods, as well as being home to some of the most magnificent icons of the Catholic Church. When you spend a holiday in Rome, every moment will be filled with incredible sights and some excellent food. However, there is more to this area than many visitors see, for just outside the city, in the countryside of Lazio and Umbria, there are even more striking sights to be discovered.
You only have to step outside the city for a day, to discover a whole new world of magnificent palaces and gardens, historic treasures and beautiful scenery. Here, life is slower, there are opportunities to stop and admire, to relax, and to escape the tourist hoards. Day to day business was, and still is, done in the city, but outside is where residents and tourists alike experience fresh air, tranquillity, and impressive, historic sights.
Umbria, like its neighbour Tuscany, has rolling hills, olive groves, and cypress trees. This area is an Italian picture-postcard at its best, with pretty hilltop villages, and magnificent city’s such as Orvieto; one of Italy’s renowned cities of art and history. The countryside of Lazio is also dotted with towns and villages, and to the west, the Tyrrhenian Sea is where city dwellers escape the heat, and head to the beach with its cool breeze.
A holiday in Rome allows you to step back in time to some of the most influential periods in history, but go one-step further and travel outside the city on a tour, and you will experience of some of the best sights, and see an entirely different side of life.
My tour outlines are ideas of what you can see and experience, but you’re individual, and so tours can be tailored to include all, or selected places of interest, please, just ask.
